Spain
coast, brava,
& the rain
Barcelona · Costa Brava · Sevilla
It started on the coast of Barcelona, light coming off the Mediterranean the way it only does in the late afternoon. We moved north along the shore toward Costa Brava, where the cliffs meet the sea and everything slows down. Then south to Sevilla, where it rained for days and the city was all the better for it. Shot entirely on 35mm, this is what the film held.
The Coast, up to Brava
The Mediterranean has a particular quality of light in the afternoon. Golden, hazy, almost indifferent to how beautiful it is. We started along the Barcelona coast and pushed north toward Costa Brava, where the water turns darker and the cliffs take over. The kind of coastline that makes you slow down and finish the roll.
“The light came off the water sideways and everything it touched looked like it was already a memory.”
Barcelona · Costa Brava · CatalunyaSevilla, in the rain
Sevilla in the rain is a different city entirely. The Real Alcázar gardens were mostly empty. The tiles dark, the arches dripping, and the whole palace quieter than it probably ever gets. Then the streets of Sevilla after, wet stone and orange trees holding their fruit. Some of the best frames come when the plan falls through.
“Sevilla was supposed to be sun and heat. The rain made it something I couldn’t have planned for.”
Sevilla · Andalusia · SpainSpain gave two completely different moods in one trip. The Mediterranean coast going north into Costa Brava was all light and water and open sky. Then Sevilla turned the whole thing around. Slow days, wet stone, and quieter frames. Shot entirely on 35mm.
